Pear with Gruyere Pie
I'm sure that pie with cheese on the crust sounds odd...but you'll be surprised. My husband doesn't even like cheese and was a little apprehensive about trying this pie, but he loved it.

Pies shown without cheese grated on crust
Ingredients
3 1/2 C Pears, sliced (whichever kind you fancy, peeled or unpeeled)
1/2 C Flour
1/4 C Sugar
1 t Cinnamon
2 Pie Crusts (I usually buy premade ones)
1/4 C Butter
1/4 C Gruyere Cheese
1. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F
2. Place bottom crust into pie dish, I prefer using stoneware
3. Mix flour, sugar, and cinnamon in a small bowl. Melt butter
4. Place pears in dish flat one layer at a time. Sprinkle each layer with dry ingredient mix and melted butter
5. After all pears are placed and coated cut 3-6 flutes in the top crust. I prefer using a flower pattern to correctly vent the pie and still keep the moisture in
6. Place top crust on pie and fold edges together, seal with the tongs of a fork if you prefer that look
7. Sprinkle remaining melted butter on the top crust and grate 1/4 cup of Gruyere cheese on top crust. You can use more or less cheese depending on your personal taste
8. Place pie on center rack in oven and bake for 10 minutes, take temperature down to 350 degrees F and bake for another 35-45 minutes, or until crust is golden brown
9. Enjoy!
